Signs and Symptoms of Aortic Stenosis

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF AORTIC STENOSIS

Symptoms - episodes of acute pulmonary oedema
- exertional dyspnoea
- angina (chest pain due to poor blood supply)
- exertional syncope
- sudden death
Signs - ejection systolic murmur (when ejection volume and velocity of
the blood flow are maximal)
- slow rising carotid pulse (because AS impedes ventricular emptying)
- narrow pulse pressure (low blood pressure)
- thrusting apex beat
